Our good buddy, Mike, returned to us for a goose hunt and what an exciting hunt it was! We started by putting our Avian X decoys out and hunkered two rows deep in the corn for our ambush spot. The Buck Gardner call had the birds landing literally almost in our lap! The first set of geese to touchdown were hitting the cornstalks above our heads to land next to our decoys. The smile and excitement Mike had when that happened was priceless! We had birds all morning landing in. For one goose, Mike and the Winchester connected with an awesome head shot! We look forward to our next adventure with Mike! Nice shooting bud!

Father, son, and uncle, Tom, Jack, and John, for a trip on Cossayuna Lake. The morning bite on day 1 was on fire, as we landed some quality Cossayuna bucket mouths. We had a couple BIG toothy critters break us off. Day 2 was filled with BIG fish caught and released on Cossy! John landed a LUNKER SIX pound green fish! Tom caught a real nice toothy pike, a stud of a large mouth, and a quality bronzeback amongst other fish caught by these fun guys.

Jack’s just getting into fishing and what an awesome job he did putting bucket mouths in the boat! 🎣Here’s another fish that he caught and released.

Cole and his uncle, Jim, joined us for a turkey hunt that they will never forget! It was filled with a lot of firsts. The turkeys were very vocal Saturday morning. We had multiple birds working towards us, but the hens kept cutting them off before they’d get to us. With this happening, we changed our plan and went after them. The first stalk we got within 20 yards of a Tom all fanned out. This was Cole’s first time being within range of a big Tom. Unfortunately, his shot didn‘t connect on the big thunder chicken, as he was full of excitement. Soon after the shot, we heard more birds gobble and we beelined it towards them. When we reached the edge of the field, the only way to get close to them was to do an Army Crawl for 200 yards through the tall grass. We snuck up to within 20 yards of three red heads and they didn’t have a clue that we were there. I told Cole, “When I yelp, they’re going to pop their heads up and when they do, fire away!” He gave one out of three of them a hair cut, as he just shot over its head. A successful hunt isn’t about harvesting an animal, it’s about being in the outdoors with family and friends carrying out the hunting tradition. At the end of the hunt, Cole and Jim kept saying that the Army Crawl was their favorite thing, because they never hunted turkeys like that before. Our Fifield Outfitters’ ice team took home two of the top honors in another Smileys Bait Shop 3 day fishing derby! 🙂 Ryan Fifield won in the perch division and Roy Fifield in the pike category for March’s end of the season competition. Congratulations to all the ice fishing anglers who participated! 🎣 A special thanks to Peter Tucker for all the time, effort, and dedication that he puts into organizing these fun, outdoor, family oriented, events! 😀 We’re looking forward to next season’s ice fishing tournaments!

It was an absolute pleasure to have Colleen and her husband, David, join us on the hardwater. The day was filled with flag after flag, but is was a bass and small pike kinda day. Dave jigged up some bass and a nice perch and Colleen jigged up some bass as well. For breakfast, we cooked up eggs and bacon and also enjoyed glazed donuts. At lunch time we fired the grill up for one of our fan favorites, venison, bear, bacon cheeseburgers with potato chips. For dessert, was Colleen’s delicious chocolate chip cookie bars. 🍪 😋 We shared stories and laughs throughout the day. Shawn is a Navy veteran and dedicated father who booked an ice fishing adventure for his son Chase and him. Chase’s two favorite fish to target are pike and perch, so we strung tip-ups for poor man’s shrimp and big toothy critters. Before we could get half of our tip-ups set-up, the flags started popping like popcorn! Chase was pulling little pike and bass out of the holes left and right! After everything was set-up, I fired the grill up for some bacon and egg sandwiches. Around late morning, one of the perch flags went up and Chase pulled up a huge jumbo and it was his biggest perch caught to date! A little bit later on, I looked over and one of our toothy critter flags had tripped and was taking line like a drag car running the quarter mile. When we got to the flag, it had stripped all the line down to the knot. Chase, like a seasoned veteran, fought this epic water wolf back to the hole. Just as it reached the hole, bubbles started rising from below and the next thing we knew, this big ‘ol gator head was heading up the ice tube! As soon as I got my hands on him, he was ours and the smile on Chase’s face was priceless! This northern was then released to fight another day. Afterwards, I fired the grill up again for some venison bacon cheeseburgers. 😋 We had a fun filled day with lots of fish caught, beautiful weather, and memories made to last a lifetime! We look forward to seeing these guys on the bass boat come open water.
