On Saturday, January 28th, my wife and I had a highly educational, entertaining, and informative day at a NYS Workshop for Sportsman Educators. Mr. John Bowe, NYS 4-H Shooting Sports Assistant Director, kicked off the workshop and kept the event well organized and engaging. We had the pleasure of hearing the newly appointed New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Director of the Division of Fish & Wildlife, Mr. Tony Wilkinson speak. Environmental Conservation Officers presented on the topic of, “It’s the Law!” Among other speakers, was also the DEC Sportsman Education Administrator, Mr. Chuck Dente. Being a new instructor, it’s inspiring and heartwarming to see, hear, and meet some of the dedicated, seasoned, veterans in this field. Collectively, thousands of hours have been volunteered yearly to children and adults to help sustain the sport of hunting. Statistics are showing that with the proper training that is being implemented through these certified NYS hunting instructors, hunters are being safer in the field.
